Description
Simple and comforting basic dal made with toor dal and warm spices.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups toor dal
1/2 tsp turmeric
1–1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp ghee or oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp asafetida
1/2 tsp red chili powder
2–3 dried red chilies
1 sprig curry leaves
1 lemon juiced
1/4 cup cilantro
6 cups water
Instructions
1. Rinse dal
2. Cook with turmeric and water until soft
3. Mash lightly and add salt
4. Prepare tempering in separate pan
5. Pour tempering over dal
6. Add lemon juice and cilantro
7. Serve hot
Notes
Adjust water for desired consistency.
